Millennials are now 25% of the population, how should that impact media spending?

Millennials (born between 1981-1996) are sometimes unfocused, often multi-tasking between phones, TV programs, and in-person and digital conversations with multiple friends.
  • They spend about 1,062 minutes per week on their smartphone
  • 21% opening apps on their phone 50+ times a day
  • 60% use two or more apps to stream live music
  • 1 in 3 Millennials use Snapchat
Those habits apply to healthcare too, with 71% of Millennials wanting to book doctor appointments through a mobile app – Is your hospital utilizing its online presence to get in front of the Millennial market?

Millennials are heavy consumers of all forms of digital and are less likely to have access to a primary care physician, so they turn to friends and message boards for information. A recent study from Kantar Health survey, showed 30% of millennials consult blogs and message boards for healthcare information.

“Your older patients are passing on and being replaced by younger, more technology-savvy ones, who use mobile devices more than anything, and increasingly look to the Internet (for better or for worse) to make decisions about their health care. If you aren’t taking full advantage of the Web as a Health Care Provider, you are leaving potentially thousands of dollars on the table every year, every month, every week, every day.” (Stover, C. 2016)
