The Good Doctor is Top New Drama
The new Fall TV season is a month underway and there are some clear early winners. ABC’s new drama The Good Doctor exceeded expectations; even with the Dancing with the Stars lead-in for select markets. The Good Doctor is the fall season’s top new drama, averaging 11.1 million viewers.
The premiere of NBC’s Will & Grace revival attracted an impressive 15.8 million viewers. According to Media Supervisor LeEllen Smith, “NBC announced a second season renewal of Will & Grace over a month before the show’s first episode, so the high ratings prove this was a good move on the network’s part.” Subsequent episodes have seen a dip in ratings, but Will & Grace remain one of the most watched non-sports shows on Thursday nights.
Returning drama This is Us from NBC continues to be a hit, and has increased its viewership from last season; one of the few shows to do so. NBC is also seeing mild success with Law & Order True Crime: The Menendez Murders, helped by it’s This is Us lead-in. However, some weeks Law & Order is only holding on to 40% of the prior show’s viewers. NBC is hoping the buzz in the press, about the controversial show, will bolster those numbers.
In its 14th season, Grey’s Anatomy shows no signs of slowing down. ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy is second only to the NFL for the most viewers on Thursdays.
Prepare to say goodbye to these under-performing shows: Fox’s The Exorcist, ABC’s The Toy Box, the Kyra Sedgwick vehicle Ten Days in the Valley, and the CW’s Valor.
